SCUBA: Regulators for under £250?
Hi, I am new to diving and I’m looking at getting my first few bits of kit. I’ve been told a regulator is the first thing I should look out for, and to buy the most expensive one I can afford.
I recently bought a diving magazine and it had an article titled ‘Best Regulators for under £250′. This is ideal, as it’s roughly what I can afford.
I’ve picked out the Apeks ATX40/DS4 (£180) and the Aqua Lunk Calypso (£175.95). What are is your opinion of these two regulators, for a beginner who is looking to dive year-round, about twice a month?
Thanks.
I use the Apex 200′s which are superb so my recommendation would be the 40′s.
However, I can’t recall the price but I know, the Decathalon store in Nottingham were selling Scubapro regs/octopus (R190 – bottom end of their range but superb quality) and console very cheap – could highly recommend them too if you’re anywhere near.

Out of those two brands, i found Apeks better. However, the very best advice that I ever received regarding equipment is. Only buy a brand that you trust yourself. I mean, they all do the same job, and it is solely down to your own preference. ask your instructor which he/she would buy, or which would suit your style of diving.
i think you should get good deals on different sets of regs second hand from your own dive centre. at least you would not have to pay top whack for regs you don’t like.
good luck.
